Melvin White

Melvin received his first lessons at the Salvation Army, joining the Junior Band at Chalk Farm (London) at age nine. He received a scholarship to study Trombone and Piano at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music and later went on to Graduate from the London College of Music.

Melvin has directed Championship Bands in the London area, the West of England, the Midlands and Wales. He has qualified for National finals on over 30 occasions, the vast proportion for The Royal Albert Hall.

More recently, achievements have included an Albert Hall appearance with Staines, guiding Michelmersh Silver to the top section for the 1st time in their 125 year history, Medway’s finest run of success at area level, promotion to the 1st section for Northfleet, a Royal Trophy win with St Austell and a successful return to the Aveley and Newham Band.

Since joining Otterbourne Brass in late 2015, Melvin has conducted the band at 7 contests, with excellent results:
